Sent your parcel? Want some quick fun while you wait? It's time to sign up for a madness round!

I've received my delightful parcel (more about that later!), and TJ and I did some planning for our first ever madness round.

We're thinking that this would be a very short round - no more than three weeks crafting time (about as long as the parcels to and from the antipodes might take), with everyone in a group making things for all the others and receiving something from all the others. Items can be anything you might make for a small, quick gift.

Sign ups: Sign up today! Open till the 14th. On the 14th, we'll email everyone who signed up with the names and addresses of all the others who signed up who are in their group

Crafting: Start as soon as you want! There is no individual matching, though you can personalise as much or as little as you like.

Post: By June 3rd

What can I craft?
Whatever you want, but we're obviously thinking small, quick to make and cheap to send. Since you only have a short time frame, we're not requiring items be matched to the exact tastes of those in your exchange group.

I would love to, but I can only commit to a certain number of participants. What if too many sign up?
We're currently thinking of setting up groups with overlap, like fannish venn diagrams. You set the number of people you're willing to send to and sort that out into groups. The mods believe they can make this work with the power of mathematics.

I would love to, but I have postal restrictions or allergies or can't receive a certain common craft
We will do our best to sort groups by interest as well as by size, but, given the tight timeframe and the quick, light, fun ethos, we can't guarantee that you'll get things that suit and we definitely can't guarantee all postage will be within your part of the world. If you're not happy to receive whatever random mixture you get, this won't be your thing. If you're not willing to post internationally, please don't sign up.

Hey Everyone,

The survey went out last week. Thank you for the over half of you who have already completed it! If the rest of you would like to fill it out before the end of the week (we're starting matching this weekend and we'd like them by then, please) that would be lovely. It's not required, of course, but it is extremely helpful. If you haven't received the survey, comment here and we'll get whatever is going on with your/our email sorted.

You can always email us at homemade2homemademod@gmail.com with any questions, concerns or suggestions.

This is going to be an awesome round! I can already tell. ♥ ♥

Sign ups are open!

You can find the outline and FAQs here

2021 dates
Jan 22nd - Feb 5th: sign ups open
Feb 5th - 9th: initial survey/preferences va google form
Feb 19th: Assignments out (at the latest - we'd aim to have them out earlier!)
March 19th: Check in one (please tell us, via email or on the comm post, that you're on track)
April 23rd: Check in two, and addresses go out
May 14th: Posting deadline

Please copy and paste the text from the box below into a comment.

Please remember that this year, with us sending out a survey to help with matching, we need more information about both what you like and what you make. Feel free to include links etc. When we send out the survey, it will ask you for the names of people you would love to receive craft from, those you'd like to make craft for, and those you're not a compatible match with. These surveys will be private to the mods only.

Name: We don’t need your real name right now. We'll ask for that when we get your address for your crafter.
Email: PLEASE make sure it’s one that you check regularly. There are a few times throughout the fest that we will need to get a hold of you via email.
Things you love: We need to know what hobbies, interests and fandoms make you happy. Please be specific as you can, from favorite color, favorite character, favorite song, etc etc...You don’t want a Gryffindor scarf if you’re in Slytherin now do you? Or let's say you put that one of your interests is horses, but you are terrified of unicorns, you wouldn’t want any of those showing up on an embroidered thing, would you? Also, if you don’t want fandom related things, or only want fandom related things, let us know that too. Same goes for interests and hobbies.
Any allergies/postal restrictions/simple DNWs: Allergies--we need to know all the things you can’t have from food allergies to scents and fibers. Postal restrictions--are there things your country won’t let be sent through the mail? Sometimes this differs if the packages are sent internationally or within the same country. Simple Do Not Wants--This is the place to put things you just don’t like, crafts you really don’t want to receive. It's too hot for woollens? Don’t want to receive the same type of craft that you make? This is the place to tell us.
What kind of crafter are you? What are you willing to gift? Are you a potter or a woodworker? A knitter or a junk journaller? Do you dabble in a bunch of things? Are the things connected by medium? If so, are there things you DON’T do? This is a chance to talk about the crafts you love to do.
What country do you live in? and Are you willing to ship internationally? These two go together. If you live outside the USA, and can't ship internationally for whatever reason, we might still be able to match you. Get in touch with the mods to talk more. This year, we need everyone to track their parcels and make sure to tick 'gift' on the customs declaration, thanks!

Hey Everyone!

I hope you are all well. Just a few things. We're not 100% ready to call this round's fest done--is it still 2020? YIKES, it's been a loooooong fest season this year. There's still a few people we haven't heard if they've received their craft, and at least one has yet to be sent. SOOOOOON, I promise!

So, if everyone could take a moment and do two things for me?

1) Please comment here to let us know if you have or haven't received anything.
2) Please, please if you haven't yet, thank your crafter. It really means a lot to know their work was appreciated. For some it's the difference between wanting or not wanting to participate in another fest like this one.

Thanks!

TJ

...now what?

We have our first parcel arrive at our first recipient's doorstep so I thought I'd put this post here for people to comment when they've got their gift. You are also free to make your very own post to share the goodness with all of us--the world needs all the goodness it can get!

Crafters, after your recipient has received their package, you too are welcome to post with pictures and share as much of the behind the scenes, creating as you'd like. I, for one, always like to hear about other people's process and how and why they came up with the things they did.

Also, there are a few people we still haven't heard from, so if any of them stumble across this post, please read this post and check your emails and respond so we know where to go from here. Thank you.

Finally, a lot of you put down that you'd be willing to pinch hit, but that was before the world got really weird, so we don't want to presume anyone is in the same place they were then. So, if you have the time, resources and inclination to give a little extra, please let us know. We're okay for now, but like I said, we haven't heard from a few people and we want to make sure that EVERYONE gets something.

Thanks.

Hey everyone. So, since we last spoke, the world for most of us has changed quite a bit. We want you to know that we are still committed to putting more crafts out in the world and we hope that you are too.

However, we totally understand that time, priorities and access to supplies - not to mention perhaps shipping when the time comes - are all up in the air and out of our control more than ever. For some of us, in these times of uncertainty, crafting is our oasis, some others of us might be focusing on other things. Both of those reactions are okay.

Know that we are more than willing to work with you with extensions and pinch hitter back ups if you just don’t have it in you this time - no consequences this time either, and you will still be getting a craft in return even if we have to make them all ourselves (both your mods are 'crafting is our oasis' types). We just ask that people have patience this time around, and let us know as soon as possible if you need to pull out.

So, in the meantime, let’s talk about what we’re working on (without revealing too much about the specific craft or recipient). Let’s talk about your concerns, your frustrations, or if you have any, your triumphs. If you need to bow out or need an extension of any kind (or any other help that you don’t want to share with the community at large) please send an email to homemade2homemademod@gmail.com and we’ll sort you out.

We have sent out the emails with everyone's assignments in them. Thank you those who have already responded with your mailing addresses, crafting queries and enthusiasm. ♥

If you haven't received your assignment, first, check your spam filter, if not there, then email us at homemade2homemademod@gmail.com (or comment here) and we'll figure out what happened and get it to you.

w0w.

33 Participants this round! That's AMAZING!

So, we're going to be busy in the next few days trying to sort who is a great fit for who. We'll be emailing you all shortly with your assignments, until then, feel free to use this post to ask any questions you have (lot of new faces here--YAY!) or get to know each other if you want. ♥

OHHHHHH! And also, a friend made some icons for us! Feel free to snag any you'd like and make sure to credit [personal profile] oldtoadwoman. ♥ ♥ Also, also, if any of you have any cool crafty icons you'd want to share? That would be lovely as well.

Icons! )

I'm not quite ready to call it just yet, as there is still one package in transit--having had a little journey back and forth once already--but thought this would be a good time to remind you all that haven't yet, to make a post either about the gift you received or the craft you created. Firstly, so we can all see the amazing talent and skill that went into this fest, and secondly, so I can mark it down as officially done. This would also be passed time to let me know if I've miscalculated and you haven't actually received anything yet (it happens).

Also, make sure to go through and peruse all the things posted and oh and ah to your heart's content. It really means a lot to the artist.

Lastly, keep your eyes out in a week or two for a little questionnaire we'll be posting about your experience with this fest, if you'd be interested in participating again, and if so, how it could go even smoother and all that whatnot. I'd also like your thoughts on other ways we could use this community when not actively festing.

Thanks all for being awesome!

♥♥

We are loving this phase of the fest so far! All these lovelies being posted everyday. All of you cheering and encouraging those who have shared what they created, what they received. YOU ROCK!

Yesterday was the official deadline for crafts to be sent. Most of you have already sent your craft and for that we say, Thank You! Some of you are sending yours within the next few days and for you we say, T.J. is right there with you. ;)

There are a few of you, though, that we haven't heard if you've sent your package or not. For those three of you, we have sent an email too, but we really need to hear from you that you have or will be shortly. PLEASE!

So, now we just wait by our mailboxes and keep checking here to see what everyone else has been working on for all these months. After a week or two, if you haven't received your parcel yet, PLEASE let us know so we can check tracking and whatnot and see what has happened. I hope to have the fest concluded by the end of the month.

Again, YOU ALL ROCK!!

As we get notified that people have received their gift, we will post the information in this post. When you see here that your crafty gift has been received (or when your recip notifies you), you are free to make a post with pictures and as much of the process that you'd like to share.

Please keep your eyes on this post as it will be updated until we all have gotten our gift. Also, keep an eye out for the posts from your fellow participants as that will be the place to publicly thank them for your gift and also geek out with them about crafty things, and really, that's why we're all here, yes?

You'll have to be a member to post, and if you still can't post, let us know (I had to restrict access as we were getting spammed earlier, but I think I've granted it to all participating). If, for some reason, you don't want to be a member, you are more than welcome to post your pictures and whatnot in the comments of this post after your recipient has received their package. You're also free to make a public post on your own journal and drop a link for us all to follow. Whatever works for you. ♥

We will be sending out mailing address to everyone in the next couple of days. When you gt the email, please respond letting us know you got it.

You still have until the 7th of May to send it, so no pressure, but if your done, feel free to send it out early.

BUT BEFORE YOU PACK UP YOUR CRAFTY GIFT please take pictures of what you have created so that after your recipient has received their gift, you can share it (and as much of the process as you'd like) with all of us.

When you do go to the post office and send your package, PLEASE get a tracking number and if you could email that number to us, that would be great. Last round we had a rogue package that took about six months to arrive. With tracking, we'll be able to at least see where it is and if it is gone forever.

When you receive your gift, please let us, and the person who created it for you, know.

If there are any problems or questions, please let us know.

In preparing for 2019, we have created a poll!

Unfortunately, I couldn't sort how to create one here at the community, so please follow this link to take you to my LJ acct where it is being hosted.

Feel free to be brutally honest (it's the best way for us to know what we can improve) as no one will see your answers.

Thanks again for being awesome! Hope to see you all again in 2019!

Here is the post to let us know you have received your gift.

Crafters, once your recipient receives your craft, your are free (and very encouraged) to make a post showing us all what you created in as much, or as little detail as you like. You'll have until the end of July before we conclude this fest and contemplate the next one.

Hey everyone--

Sorry I haven't gotten your addresses to you yet. I forgot the whole time zone thing and that for some people, it's been the 23rd for a long time now. Oooops.

Anyway... I'll be emailing each of you with the address of your recipient shortly. PLEASE respond to the email so that I know that you got it.

You have until July 1st to send your package. If you think you won't be done by then, PLEASE let me know so we can figure something out and so I can let your recip know. Also, PLEASE don't forget to take pictures of what you have made before sending. After everyone's got their packages, I hope we can all share what we've created, being a community of crafters after all. ;)
