Since my previous post, I recieved one more gift. It was totally unexpected and I did actually gasp out loud when I opened it because... well, WOW.

Thank you SO MUCH [personal profile] laridian for this. It's a quilted wall hanging, which I intend to hang on the wall above my TV. The design is from the early part of the 20th century, I'm told and it's all the colours I love in deliciously decadent and gorgeous fabrics. I love, love, love it. It's so unique and wonderful.

As life (tm) has been less than stellar between these posts, this gift from [personal profile] laridian couldn't have come at a better time and really gave me a huge smile in a very dark time for me. (Above and beyond Covid, natch). Thank you again, and I'm so glad too that you've discovered a joy in making junk journals. (If you'd like YouTube channel links to some of the better makers and their tutorials, send me a message, I'm happy to share.)

I have been so incredibly lucky this year. Thank you to everyone involved in this community, to the mods who put things together, the pinch hitters who pick things up, and just all the wonderful people here.

I recieved my gift on Friday--not one, but TWO! I was so surprised and very grateful. It's been a difficult three months here, so this was a very welcome and appreciated surprise.

The first packet I opened was from [personal profile] elwinfortuna and WOW. It's a set of five pieces of handmade jewellery that are Babylon 5 themed. I've loved that show from the first time it aired, and to have this unique collection of stunning pieces really thrilled me. The photo really doesn't do it justice, and I did take several shots to try and get a photo that would do all the amazing pieces justice, so you'll just have to imagine it's a million times better in real life than in this photo. I did chuckle at the Drazi necklace--"He who takes green is green leader, he who takes purple is purple leader," so like Ivanova in the episode, as I have both, I'm now leader of both, which is a win. I love the bracelet which is themed to the episode "Deconstruction of Falling Stars," one of my favourites in the show, along with "Sleeping in Light" which got its own necklace, and "Shadow Dancing" which are the earrings. I love the choice of stones in the "Born to the Purple" necklace, they're so unique and perfect for that episode. It's like Amy read my mind! Thank you so much, I love, love, love it all, and I can't wait to be able to go somewhere that I can wear these pieces.

Click on the thumbnails to see full size, you won't be disappointed. I'm not!

The second packet was from [personal profile] yourlibrarian and contained eight various necklaces made in different themes from my list of likes. I particularly liked the colour choices and stones used, and the art deco ones are gorgeous with their shiny pieces and beads. As with the first set, the photo does not do these pieces justice, and so you'll have to imagine them looking a million times better in real life, which, like the first set, I know is hard to do. Again, I look forward to being able to go out somewhere when restrictions are lifted here so I can wear these pieces. Thank you so much for all of these, I love them all so much, and thank you for your generosity in making so many, I have so much to choose from!

I was beginning to wonder if this would ever arrive, given how slow the post is right now and the updates on the tracking slip were non-existant, but it was delivered today, so now I can share with you all what I made.

This is the junk journal I made for [personal profile] tjs_whatnot. I had intended to do a little video of it, but my camera broke, and when I tried with my phone, it fell out of the tripod and a few pixels cracked, so I decided that I'd not try again. Instead I took a ton of photos--not of every page, but enough to give you all an idea.

I tried to incorporate as many of [personal profile] tjs_whatnot's interests as I could into this junk journal. I hope she likes it. All pictures are beneath the cut, click the thumbnails to embiggen.

Onward )

So that's it! I hope you all enjoyed it, and I really hope that [personal profile] tjs_whatnot liked it.

[personal profile] chibifukurou's package has been received!

Here's what I sent:

IMG_2816

Butterfly/caterpillar with removable wings, flower, leaf, aphid, beetle egg case, beetle pupa, ladybird beetle/beetle larva with removable wings. (Crochet; Materials: Cotton yarn, cotton/acrylic yarn, polyfill, glass eyes, plastic eyes, cotton embroidery floss. Not pet or child safe. Designs are from Lalylala.)

Crochet beasties and accessories

(Sadly, this box turned out to be too shallow, so I sent everything in a plain cardboard one that didn't squish stuff. And I totally spaced including any kind of note or even my name! Also, the book is just there in the background because it is the source of most of the patterns.)

There's a process post at my DW and I made a 29-image flickr album for this.

[personal profile] kitewithfish has received my gift for the 2020 exchange. I made her a Venom themed traveller's notebook, and a pair of TARDIS earrings. I have a process post in my journal, but here's a couple of photos of the finished piece (taken at an angle, so you can see the design):

I hope she enjoys them!

elrhiarhodan let me know that my package had arrived, so here's a look at the contents:

I ended up pinch hitting for a few people in the exchange. As it happens both of my next recipients liked Art Deco style work! They also both liked bright colors which, on the one hand was great because so do I. On the other, this didn't work too well with the more deco styled pendants I had to work with. For example, the first thing that came to mind was peacocks. While this pendant's colors were a bit too muted for my taste, I tried to bring them out a bit in the necklace itself. Read more... )

[personal profile] ambyr sent me some beautiful beadwork, which sat in our mailbox for too long (sorry!) and was mistaken for something I ordered when I brought it in.

I was so excited when I saw that someone had asked for baby things this year! I have legit been waiting with a Pinterest folder at the ready for THREE years now. ♥

I did feel guilty though that I didn't know until the sign up that they were having a baby (worst friend!), but after seeing the tag for the baby on their journal, I had my theme. ♥Rainbows♥

But first, something for the mama who likes Autumn colors and nature:

I hope you and your Little enjoy for years to come. ;)

[personal profile] ambyr has received my gift for the 2020 Exchange and has told me how much she enjoys them.

I was very excited to create for Ambyr, since she loves jewelry and has excellent taste in colors - teals and purples and silver. So I ended up creating a suite of jewelry for her:

Bracelet

Necklace

Pendant

I am glad she likes them and she's told me that she wears the little pendant regularly - which is super sweet, since it was a last minute addition to the package.

Can't wait for 2021!

My recipient has gotten their bread and sourdough starter, and now I can share the printables I made to go with it.

Links go to Google Drive. I can email the document to anyone uncomfortable with that.

And here are the pictures that go with it, in case you'd like to see them at full size.

Hey everyone. So, since we last spoke, the world for most of us has changed quite a bit. We want you to know that we are still committed to putting more crafts out in the world and we hope that you are too.

However, we totally understand that time, priorities and access to supplies - not to mention perhaps shipping when the time comes - are all up in the air and out of our control more than ever. For some of us, in these times of uncertainty, crafting is our oasis, some others of us might be focusing on other things. Both of those reactions are okay.

Know that we are more than willing to work with you with extensions and pinch hitter back ups if you just don’t have it in you this time - no consequences this time either, and you will still be getting a craft in return even if we have to make them all ourselves (both your mods are 'crafting is our oasis' types). We just ask that people have patience this time around, and let us know as soon as possible if you need to pull out.

So, in the meantime, let’s talk about what we’re working on (without revealing too much about the specific craft or recipient). Let’s talk about your concerns, your frustrations, or if you have any, your triumphs. If you need to bow out or need an extension of any kind (or any other help that you don’t want to share with the community at large) please send an email to homemade2homemademod@gmail.com and we’ll sort you out.

We have sent out the emails with everyone's assignments in them. Thank you those who have already responded with your mailing addresses, crafting queries and enthusiasm. ♥

If you haven't received your assignment, first, check your spam filter, if not there, then email us at homemade2homemademod@gmail.com (or comment here) and we'll figure out what happened and get it to you.

33 Participants this round! That's AMAZING!

So, we're going to be busy in the next few days trying to sort who is a great fit for who. We'll be emailing you all shortly with your assignments, until then, feel free to use this post to ask any questions you have (lot of new faces here--YAY!) or get to know each other if you want. ♥

OHHHHHH! And also, a friend made some icons for us! Feel free to snag any you'd like and make sure to credit [personal profile] oldtoadwoman. ♥ ♥ Also, also, if any of you have any cool crafty icons you'd want to share? That would be lovely as well.

Icons! )

As of February 9th noon est, sign ups are now closed.
Comments have been turned off.

Sign ups are open!

Please copy and paste the text from the box below into a comment.

But first, a little explanation on what we need in the sign ups and why. First and foremost, the sign ups are mostly for us to find the best matches we can with what people want to receive and want to offer. Please be as specific as you can in your request. Gifters, if you need more info, please come to us (homemade2homemademod@gmail.com) and we’ll be your go between.

Name: We don’t need your real name right now. We'll ask for that when we get your address for your crafter.
Email: PLEASE make sure it’s one that you check regularly. There are a few times throughout the fest that we will need to get a hold of you via email.
Things you geek about: We need to know what fandoms, hobbies and interests make you happy. Please be specific as you can, from favorite color, favorite character, favorite song, etc etc...You don’t want a Gryffindor scarf if you’re in Slytherin now do you? Or let's say you put that one of your interests is horses, but you are terrified of unicorns, you wouldn’t want any of those showing up on an embroidered thing, would you? Also, if you don’t want fandom related things, or only want fandom related things, let us know that too. Same goes for interests and hobbies.
Any allergies/postal restrictions/simple DNWs: Allergies--we need to know all the things you can’t have from food allergies to scents and fibers. Postal restrictions--are there things your country won’t let be sent through the mail? Sometimes this differs if the packages are sent internationally or within the same country. Simple Do Not Wants--This is the place to put things you just don’t like, crafts you really don’t want to receive. Not into baked goods? Don’t want to receive the same type of craft that you make? This is the place to tell us.
What kind of crafter are you? What are you willing to gift? Are you a potter or a woodworker? A knitter or a candymaker? Do you dabble in a bunch of things? Are the things connected by medium? If so, are there things you DON’T do? Do you not want to do fandom specific things? Only want to do fandom specific things?
What country do you live in? and Are you willing to ship internationally? These two go together. If you live outside the USA, and can't ship internationally for whatever reason, we might still be able to match you. There were at least two participants from every country represented last year. Get in touch with the mods to talk more. This year, we need everyone to track their parcels, thanks!
