Feel free to comment with any questions/concerns/suggestions you might have.
Listed below are answers to some questions we anticipate being asked.
Frequently Anticipated Questions:
Q. Will this be an international exchange?
A. We hope so. In the sign ups we will ask people if they would be willing to ship internationally. Hopefully, enough people will be willing (or enough people from the same country sign up) that we can make it truly global. If not, we will see what we can do to make sure all that want to participate can.
Q. Is the exchange anonymous?
A. Yes. This is like a Secret Santa/Secret Squirrel type thing, so it’s important to keep your gift a secret until you send it to the recip, at that point, you are free to reveal yourself, or keep it a secret until you post pictures of the gift you created at the community.
If you need more information than the sign ups allow, or want to give more information, you are free to write a letter to your gifter and we’ll put up a post to collect them. You could also go through us and we’ll pass on the query.
Q. What if I don’t get a gift?
A. You WILL get a gift. Even if we have to make them ourselves. Even if we have to corral a gang of pinch hitters.
Q. What if I have to pull out of the exchange?
A. Life happens, we get that. But, for an exchange like this to work like it should, we really need people to honor their commitments. If you’re not 100% sure you can do that, by all means, sit this round out and wait until the next round. If you absolutely have to drop out, please, please let us know as soon as you can so that we don’t have to rush to replace you and can make sure the person who was to make something for you can fulfil someone else’s request instead.
And, because there are monetary concerns that are affected by your decision, there might be monetary ramifications-- i.e. to sign up for any further exchanges, you might have to kick in some money to reimburse those who had to step up for you in regards to shipping. So, like stated above, make sure you are really able to participate before you sign up.
Q. Is there a price limit?
A. Price equivalents are hard because of all the mediums and levels of skill. But, that being said, we wouldn’t want to break anyone’s bank or waste their time. Make something that you’d be proud to share, to give; that you’d be honored to receive yourself. And if you do receive something that you don’t think matches the value of what you’ve sent, first ask yourself if it was done with the best of intentions at heart before coming to us to voice a complaint.
Q. Does it all need to be homemade?
A. No. Of course, we’d like as much of the gift to be homemade as possible, but there are exceptions. For example; if someone wants to make a collection of themed gifts, like a tea set, and wants to include tea, we’re not saying you have to make the tea yourself. There could certainly be elements of the gift that you yourself don’t make. We do suggest, when possible, that you procure the items from other crafters whenever possible.

Date: 2018-03-21 05:21 am (UTC)There won't be themes--I don't think. I just spent two years doing the Fandom Snowflake Challenge and seeing people talk about their love of geek crafting, all the while thinking I was the only one, and so I thought there might be a desire to share this passion in a way similar to how writers and artists get to gift each other stories and art in their exchanges.
I hope that answers your question at all? Sorry I got sort of rambly.
