I'm very slow with this, but I finally got my photo post up for the Ravenclaw-inspired shawl I knitted for [personal profile] abigail89!

More pictures at my journal :)

It is August 1st and the first round of Homemade 2 Homemade Craft Exchange is finished! I believe everyone has received their gift. If not, please let me know!

Thank you all for being awesome on this first round. I am pleased to report that we didn't need a single pinch hitter for this round. In fact, due to a mix up, we actually over gifted one person. All in all, not a bad problem to have!

I will be putting up a poll for further rounds and asking for suggestions, grievances and whatnot later this week. I just wanted to put a masterlist together. Please do go and check out the posts linked here and marvel at each other's talent. It's part of the fun of a fest, yes?

If I've missed any posts, or if you make one after reading this, just let me know and I will add the link.

And again, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING YOUR TALENT AND HOPE TO SEE YOU AGAIN SOON!

[personal profile] lilacsigil has received their package from me, so I can share it here with you all.

I love making crafts for people, I like trying new things and hoping for the best. Yes, there are frustrating parts, and parts I wish I did better, but I'm usually pleased with the outcome--even if the reason is that I am done and never have to see it again. ;)

I wanted to challenge myself with new-to-me skills, but also have old standbys to rely on... and as is my luck, it was the standby that gave me the most difficulty. :( But, I'll get to that in a minute. first, the new things I learned:

Pics of Projects )

All in all, I had a good time, learned some things, didn't hate the things I created and yet, still think if I were to open an Etsy shop it would be called, "It's the Thought that Counts" and I hope Lilacsigil liked them and can't wait to do it all over again. ♥♥

It's been suggested that we make a brief post in this comm linking back to our own journal where we did a post with pics of what we made - or our recipients can do that, if they've made a photo post about what they got. The comments we've been doing don't show up on peoples' reading pages, so it's a bit hard for comm members to track what's been received just from the comments. It's also way easier to do links and edits in a post rather than a comment. So I've copied my 'reveal' over from my comment.

This challenge was great fun and I got to make pics of some favourite female characters for [personal profile] tielan! I’ve posted photos of the framed pics over on my dreamwidth journal. :D

Here is the post to let us know you have received your gift.

Crafters, once your recipient receives your craft, your are free (and very encouraged) to make a post showing us all what you created in as much, or as little detail as you like. You'll have until the end of July before we conclude this fest and contemplate the next one.

Sorry I'm a little late. Thank you [personal profile] moth2fic for reminding me. ;)

Here's where you let us know how you're doing--no worries if you haven't started, are still ruminating or (like me) hate everything you've started so far. You still have a month, plenty of time to go. We just need to know you're still participating so we can give any pinch hitters needed time to do their magic as well.

You can comment here, or at this post, email us or let us know any way you want.

If you want to lament the process and whatnot, we're here for that too.

As you check in, we'll cross out your name. In a few days, [personal profile] redsnake05 or I will try to reach out one last time to make absolute sure before we take your name off the list and find a pinch hitter.

The Sign Up window for the first Geeky Craft Exchange has now passed. If you missed this window, I do hope you continue to follow us and sign up for the next round.

We have 19 participants!

Hello! Welcome to the first Geeky Gift Exchange! Please cut and paste the sign up form into the comments of this post. We will not start matching participants until April 15th or until we get the max amount of participants for this first round (20). Please do consider promoting the fest on your journals with this handy-dandy banner.

Since this is our first exchange, a little explanation on what we need in the sign ups. First and foremost, the sign ups are mostly for us to find the best matches we can with what people want to receive and want to offer. To give your recip more of an idea of your specific likes and wants, please consider writing them a letter that you could either post on your journal or send to us (tjwritter(at)gmail(dot)com to pass on to your gifter. Gifters, if you need more info, please let us be your go between as well.

Name: We don’t need your real name. We’re not asking you to out yourself. The only person you’ll have to give your real name to is the creator, and that’s only for the post office.
Email: We need one that you check regularly.
Things you geek about: We need to know what fandoms, hobbies and interests make you happy. We suggest that in your letter you get more specific so that your creator knows just what about these things you like the most, such as favorite color, favorite character, favorite song, etc etc...You don’t want a Gryffindor scarf if you’re in Slytherin now do you? Or let's say you put that one of your interests is horses, but you are terrified of unicorns, you wouldn’t want any of those showing up on an embroidered thing, would you?
Any allergies/postal restrictions/simple DNWs: Allergies--we need to know all the things you can’t have from food allergies, to scents and fibers. Postal restrictions--are there things you country won’t let be sent through the mail? Sometimes this differs if the packages are sent internationally or within the same country. Simple Do Not Wants--This is the place to put things you just don’t like, crafts you really don’t want to receive. Not into baked goods? Don’t need anymore journals-even cool homemade ones? This is the place to tell us.
What kind of crafter are you? What are you willing to gift? Are you a potter or a woodworker? A knitter or a candymaker? Do you dabble in a bunch of things? Are the things connected by medium? If so, are there things you DON’T do? don’t have to tell us exactly what you willing to give, where’s the surprise in that? But we do need to get a sense so we can best match you. We’d hate to set you up for giving you someone who isn’t really into the thing you want to give them, ya know?

If you’ve found us, YAY! If you need to know more about who we are and what we're doing, feel free to check out our profile or this Welcome Post.

If you’d be so kind as to help us get the word out so that we can get as many crafters involved as possible, that would be FANTASTIC!

Just cut and paste the deets in the box and post to all your crafty places--including your own journal of course!

If you know of any art/craft communities that we could affiliate/link-share with, just drop a comment in this post, thanks. We want to offer our members space to share/promo and discuss crafting, but first we need to know what’s already out there being offered.

Thanks! And we’ll see you here in April!
