Joy in a box

Historically, craft exchanges have been primarily about the crafting to me. It is always a fun challenge for me to have to come up with an idea for someone that I don’t know well. There is always a small sense of risk. When it comes to fandoms, does this other person have the same take on this ‘verse as I do? Will I upset their sense of how things work?

Little did I know that this year, having a gift magically appear in my mailbox made me happier than I could have ever expected. And what a gift it was!
There we two beautifully wrapped packages.

First I opened the smaller one. And inside I found this. A cross-stitch of Zoe from Firefly.
Now, a brief aside, last year my brother gave me a framed collage that included Carrie Fisher’s autograph. And I used it as the Centerpiece of what I call my Wall of Rebellious Women (my deep apologies for the crooked pictures, but I wanted to finish this post and didn’t take the time to straighten them)

I have a much smaller collection of fan art of Okoye and Zoe Alleyne Washburn to add to the wall, it I haven’t gotten them up yet. But now is obviously the time to do so so that I can have Zoe keep me company while I sew masks.

Truly, that would have been a wonderful gift. But wait, there’s more...

There was also this!

It is kind of a hybrid between a scrapbook and a journal.

And it even has a little portable notebook in a pocket in the back.

Thank you so much to akamarykate for making a gift that wildly exceeded my expectations and for bringing some much needed light to an otherwise dark time.

I'm so glad the package arrived safely! (I spent all day making masks for my workplace, and seeing this post was a lovely way to end that kind of a day.) I had a wonderful time putting everything together and picking out things from my stash for the journal that I thought you might like. Knowing you enjoyed the gifts make me super happy! I hope you find lots more light in the days to come.
