Sign Ups are Now CLOSED!
The Sign Up window for the first Geeky Craft Exchange has now passed. If you missed this window, I do hope you continue to follow us and sign up for the next round.
We have 19 participants!
Hello! Welcome to the first Geeky Gift Exchange! Please cut and paste the sign up form into the comments of this post. We will not start matching participants until April 15th or until we get the max amount of participants for this first round (20). Please do consider promoting the fest on your journals with this handy-dandy banner.
Since this is our first exchange, a little explanation on what we need in the sign ups. First and foremost, the sign ups are mostly for us to find the best matches we can with what people want to receive and want to offer. To give your recip more of an idea of your specific likes and wants, please consider writing them a letter that you could either post on your journal or send to us (tjwritter(at)gmail(dot)com to pass on to your gifter. Gifters, if you need more info, please let us be your go between as well.
Name: We don’t need your real name. We’re not asking you to out yourself. The only person you’ll have to give your real name to is the creator, and that’s only for the post office.
Email: We need one that you check regularly.
Things you geek about: We need to know what fandoms, hobbies and interests make you happy. We suggest that in your letter you get more specific so that your creator knows just what about these things you like the most, such as favorite color, favorite character, favorite song, etc etc...You don’t want a Gryffindor scarf if you’re in Slytherin now do you? Or let's say you put that one of your interests is horses, but you are terrified of unicorns, you wouldn’t want any of those showing up on an embroidered thing, would you?
Any allergies/postal restrictions/simple DNWs: Allergies--we need to know all the things you can’t have from food allergies, to scents and fibers. Postal restrictions--are there things you country won’t let be sent through the mail? Sometimes this differs if the packages are sent internationally or within the same country. Simple Do Not Wants--This is the place to put things you just don’t like, crafts you really don’t want to receive. Not into baked goods? Don’t need anymore journals-even cool homemade ones? This is the place to tell us.
What kind of crafter are you? What are you willing to gift? Are you a potter or a woodworker? A knitter or a candymaker? Do you dabble in a bunch of things? Are the things connected by medium? If so, are there things you DON’T do? don’t have to tell us exactly what you willing to give, where’s the surprise in that? But we do need to get a sense so we can best match you. We’d hate to set you up for giving you someone who isn’t really into the thing you want to give them, ya know?

Things you Geek About (fandoms/hobbies/interests):
Fandoms: Backstreet Boys, Pokémon, Voltron: Legendary Defender, Yuri!!! On Ice, The Sims
Non-Fandom Interests: Dolphins, Cats, Makeup and Nail Polish
Any allergies/postal restrictions/simple DNWs: None that I can think of.
What country do you live in? United States
Are you willing to ship internationally? Yup! :D
What kind of crafter are you?/What are you willing to gift? I mostly cross stitch, but I also want to try Perler beading, and I can do some basic geeky baking (I can decorate cakes and cookies in simple designs)
Are you willing to pinch hit if necessary? Possibly, if I can have an idea of what I need to make prior to accepting it
What about if shipping is paid for? It wouldn't really matter.

Things you Geek About (fandoms/hobbies/interests):
Georgette Heyer, Jane Austen, mythology in general (particularly Egyptian and Sumerian but pretty much anything), history (particularly ancient history, the history of women and weird historical facts). I also love the Narnia books, Shakespeare in general and Lord of the Rings (mostly Gimli/Legolas).
Any allergies/postal restrictions/simple DNWs: No allergies. I cannot receive homemade food for postal reasons.
What country do you live in? New Zealand
Are you willing to ship internationally? Yes
What kind of crafter are you?/What are you willing to gift?
Sewing is my primary craft (think aprons, bags, quilts, cushion covers etc), but I am also into pyrography (wood burning), embroidery, painted t-shirts and homewares and decoupage. I'm willing to craft for unfamiliar fandoms and will research with enthusiasm.
Are you willing to pinch hit if necessary? Yes
What about if shipping is paid for? Still yes

Things you Geek About (fandoms/hobbies/interests):
Big fandoms: Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Narnia, X-Men (Alternate Timeline Movies), White Collar
MCU sub-fandoms: Black Panther, Thor, Captain America, Agent Carter
Tiny fandoms: The Scarlet Pimpernel, Oxford Time Travel Universe, Perry Mason
Non-fandom interests: math, history, classical music, periodic table of the elements
Any allergies/postal restrictions/simple DNWs: No food items or anything scented please. Also, I have a formaldehyde sensitivity, so if you're painting something (or using non-water-based markers, or pretty much any stinky art supplies just to be on the safe side) please try to let it air out afterwards for a day or so, and if you're sewing something please make sure the fabric is washed.
DNWs: I'd prefer no non-canonical ships for all my fandoms. I'd prefer to receive a gift that didn't center around something knit or crochet since those are my own main crafts. I'd prefer not to receive jewelry, as I rarely wear any.
What country do you live in? USA
Are you willing to ship internationally? I would much prefer not to if possible.
What kind of crafter are you?/What are you willing to gift? *deep breath* My most experience is in knitting, crocheting, hand-spinning, & needlepoint; I also do some weaving, sewing, patchwork/quilting, beading, paper crafts, & cross-stitch.
Are you willing to pinch hit if necessary? Possibly, depending on turnaround time & cost
What about if shipping is paid for? That would help a lot.

Things you Geek About: X-Men of all kinds, Netflix MCU, The Exorcist, Harry Potter, Imperial Radch, Star Trek (esp. DS9 and Discovery), cats.
Any allergies/postal restrictions/simple DNWs: In Australia so there are major customs restrictions: no homemade food, no tea, no plants/seeds in their natural form, no unprocessed skin/hide/animal products (you laugh, but once I was in an altered book swap and someone put dried chicken feet in). I am also sensitive to perfumes and scents, and would not want to receive anything from a household where there are smokers.
What country do you live in? Australia
Are you willing to ship internationally? Yes
What kind of crafter are you?/What are you willing to gift? Embroidery (cross stitch, general embroidery, blackwork), sewing, paper arts.
Are you willing to pinch hit if necessary? Yes, but I would need some notice as the post here is very slow.
What about if shipping is paid for? Yes, but time is the main problem.

Things you Geek About (fandoms/hobbies/interests): While Black Panther is big in my head right now, most of my geeking is saved for learning new hobbies and plants. Harry Potter and Supernatural will always have a place in my heart <333 More info on request
Any allergies/postal restrictions/simple DNWs: No food please, it's likely the package will have to sit at the office before being delivered. Also, I like useful things! Flower pots, tea towels, etc. I don't need to receive anything fandom related.
What country do you live in? USA
Are you willing to ship internationally? Yes? I've never done it before.
What kind of crafter are you?/What are you willing to gift? I am mostly practical. Making useful things beautiful, spoons, kitchenware, kitchen towels, tote bags, embroidery, screen printing, quilting,
Are you willing to pinch hit if necessary? Yes, but the gift might be kind of generic/non-fandom without much notice.

Things you Geek About (fandoms/hobbies/interests): Fandoms: Marvel, Star Wars, Doctor Who, White Collar, Miranda (to name a few). Hobbies: writing, reading, travel, crafting obvs. Interests: Saving democracy, human rights, saving the planet, you know, the usual. ;)
Any allergies/postal restrictions/simple DNWs: No allergies or postal restrictions that I'm aware of. DNW (or can't haves): Candles (sadly, I'm not allowed them. You start one tiny fire and landlords get all weird about flammables in your room, sheeeesh!), rose-scented anything, I'm weird about fruit so should probably list that, and while there are very few crafts I don't want, I am trying to declutter my life a bit, so I'm appreciate useful crafts that serve a purpose instead of just decorative (as sad as that is really). I was going to list bags because I have so many of them, but who am I kidding. They are my weakness. I love them. But, that being said, my other weakness--journals--I'm truly all full up on. So sadly, I don't want any of those, even awesome homemade ones--unless you are making the paper itself, like OMG, I'm so intrigued by that skill...moving on.
What country do you live in? USA
Are you willing to ship internationally? Yes
What kind of crafter are you?/What are you willing to gift? I am a dabbler. I haven't found a craft that I haven't wanted to try. I mean, there are things that I just don't have the equipment for--pottery, woodworking, and skills that I'm just never going to master--knitting, embroidery, but other than that, I like to try new things. I really like doing upcycled, ecofriendly crafts right now.
Are you willing to pinch hit if necessary? Yes
What about if shipping is paid for? Even better

Things you Geek About (fandoms/hobbies/interests): Fandom stuff like Merlin, Buffy, MCU, Star Trek TOS, Duran Duran, etc. (I have friends who are fannish so you can always check with me as other fandoms might be handy too). Pretty much anything about those would be fine, it doesn't have to be really specific. I also like horses and horse racing, travel (particularly Brasil, Peru and beaches), and reading (particularly mysteries and historical fiction). Holiday themed stuff could also find a home, take your pick of them! Favorite colors are seafoam green, aqua and lemon yellow.
Any allergies/postal restrictions/simple DNWs: No postal restrictions. Cat and dust allergies but I don't imagine that would affect crafts? I can't really think of any crafts I wouldn't care for other than stuff that is personalized with my name.
What country do you live in? USA
Are you willing to ship internationally? Yes
What kind of crafter are you?/What are you willing to gift? Beaded necklaces (see Dreamwidth account).
Are you willing to pinch hit if necessary? Yes, in fact I'd put myself first in line for that so long as someone didn't mind getting necklaces!
What about if shipping is paid for? That would be great, particularly if I end up pinch hitting for several people.

Things you Geek About (fandoms/hobbies/interests): My main current fandoms are Stargate SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis, with additional fannish feelings about Lord of the Rings, the TV show Madam Secretary, and various historical mystery series including Nicolas Le Floch, Brother Cadfael, Lord Peter Wimsey, and William Monk.
I'm also a history geek (I have a PhD in medieval history), and a fan of the Vancouver Canucks NHL hockey team.
Any allergies/postal restrictions/simple DNWs: No allergies, but international mail is slow here and can get caught up in customs if it's in any way valuable, so food is a bad idea. I'm also very, very not into anything MCU/comics/superhero related, and don't wear jewelry or makeup.
What country do you live in? Canada
Are you willing to ship internationally? Very much yes! Though I can't promise Canadian shipping will be fast...
What kind of crafter are you?/What are you willing to gift? My main craft is knitting, but I could also sew or quilt given the right inspiration, or dabble in calligraphy/book arts.
Are you willing to pinch hit if necessary? Potentially, depending on my job situation.
What about if shipping is paid for? Time is more of a concern.

Merlin (BBC): Gwen

Wonder Woman: Wonder Woman
Justice League: Wonder Woman, Lois Lane, Martha Kent
Otherwise I still like Harry Potter, Firefly, X-Men (early trilogy and/or pre-00s comics, although Laura in Logan is amazing), Star Wars (original, sequels, and Rogue One), a multitude of book series including Diane Duane's Young Wizards, Nalini Singh's Psy-Changeling, Melanie Rawn's Princedoms and Exiles trilogies, Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel series (more Phedre than Imriel), and Terry Pratchett's Discworld (the witches - including Agnes and Tiffany, the Watch, and Susan/Lobsang).
Any allergies/postal restrictions/simple DNWs: Be careful about sending anything that might contravene Australia's biosecurity laws. Nuts, seeds, real animal fur/teeth/bones (IDK; someone might), things with egg or even albumen in it... Helpful link here.

Are you willing to ship internationally? Yes
What kind of crafter are you?/What are you willing to gift? "Sewist" (quilter, dressmaker, make bags and other thing). I'd probably make a small bag, or a mug-rug, or perhaps something that

I am primarily interested in strong female characters. Zoe Allene Washburne, General Leia Organa, Jyn Erso, Rey and Okoye. But I also love Malcolm Reynolds and Wash. But I don’t do Jayne. Ever.
I would love a drawing or painting with Zoe and Okoye. I grew up in the 70’s so Leia is a formative icon for me. So feel free to work her in.

Things you Geek About (fandoms/hobbies/interests):
Primary Fandom interests: POI, NCIS, HP, SGA, SG1, BtVS, Pretender, ST:TOS. I also deeply appreciate and enjoy pretty much anything MCU. Wonder Woman is also amazing.
My current fandom leaning is HP. I self-identified at a Hufflepuff, and recently Pottermore sorted me into Slytherin. So now I am fascinated by both houses.
On the literary side of things, I adore Jim Butcher's Dresden novels and Seanan McGuire's InCryptid Series.
Any allergies/postal restrictions/simple DNWs:
No allergies of note (cats, but yeah, whatever, I have a cat). I am not aware of any particularly weird Canada Post restrictions.
What country do you live in? Canada, eh?
Are you willing to ship internationally? Yup.
What kind of crafter are you?/What are you willing to gift?
I like to make jewellery. Bracelets, necklaces, earrings - I do have some findings that are hypo-allergenic for people who are metal sensitive; also, I can can go leather wrap bracelets with non-metal button closure for people who simply can't tolerate any type of metal in contact with their skin. I have MANY MANY MANY types, sizes, colours of beads.
I like to make cards. All occasion, friendship, birthday, love, whatever.
I have made fandom fridge magnets, fandom themed key chains, and relating back to jewellery, fandom charm bracelets.
I do also bake, but shipping baked goods is often prohibitively expensive. However, if there were someone in my locale that wished to receive baked goods, I'd be amenable to that.
Are you willing to pinch hit if necessary?
Quite possibly.
What about if shipping is paid for?
Even more likely.

I'm lactose intolerant so theoretically no milk products, but I can usually tolerate baked goods or candy, nothing with peanuts or hazelnuts, nothing coffee flavored, no licorice, no tea (I love it but I have way too much), no candles (my house would burn down!), no live plants (I have a black thumb!), nothing Snape or Slytherin related, earrings that don't have silver, gold or stainless steel posts.
What country do you live in? USA
Are you willing to ship internationally? Sure

Any allergies/postal restrictions/simple DNWs: Actual allergies aren't an issue but wool against the skin makes me itchy! No foodstuffs as our customs won't allow those in.
What country do you live in? New Zealand - sorry it's so far!
Are you willing to ship internationally? yes, no worries.

What country do you live in? UK

Any allergies/postal restrictions/simple DNWs: Oh thank goodness this is included! I don't have to feel bad by giving my thing-giver a long list of don'ts. Here is the list. I live in Australia so check quarantine/customs restrictions. There's a lot of them. I also dislike synthetic fabrics, in case you were thinking of sending something made of fabrics. No sugary food.
