My Creations

[personal profile] lilacsigil has received their package from me, so I can share it here with you all.

I love making crafts for people, I like trying new things and hoping for the best. Yes, there are frustrating parts, and parts I wish I did better, but I'm usually pleased with the outcome--even if the reason is that I am done and never have to see it again. ;)

I wanted to challenge myself with new-to-me skills, but also have old standbys to rely on... and as is my luck, it was the standby that gave me the most difficulty. :( But, I'll get to that in a minute. first, the new things I learned:

EMBROIDERY!! (and interfacing!)

Lilacsigil said that she liked cats, and [personal profile] redsnake05 found the pattern for me and convinced me I could make it, so I tried. Here's the inside material which I love a lot.

CATS! And BOOKS!! ♥

And because Lilacsigil said that they loved both Marvel Netflix and HP and because it gave me an opportunity to play my favorite game "Which Hogwarts Houses Would They Be In" I made Defender coasters!

PERLER BEAD COASTERS!

I wish they were a tiny bit bigger and didn't melt sort of weird, but *shrug*. FYI, it's really hard to sort superheroes into Hogwarts houses! Except Jessica Jones. She screams Slytherin. ♥

Now for the things that I thought would be easy and perfect but was actually a huge PITA that I'm still terrified fell apart before it got to them:

Using Upcycled Fruit Snack packages and X-Men comics (the reason I asked what people thought of using books/comics for art...but then I remembered when Lilacsigil signed up, she indicated she had been in another exchange of book art, so I hoped she wouldn't mind that I... uh... repurposed a few comics for this. ;)

TREASURE BOX!

It was harder than I'd imagined to get them to a size where the drawer would easily slide into its spot, and then when I did get it cut down right, I didn't take into account that the decoupaging would add to it. :( And then I worried that with transport and maybe the heatwave would melt the whole thing and AHHHHHHH! So, in a panic I also threw in some XMen magnets I made with some of the left over comics that I, of course, forgot to take a picture of before I packaged it up. Ooooops.

All in all, I had a good time, learned some things, didn't hate the things I created and yet, still think if I were to open an Etsy shop it would be called, "It's the Thought that Counts" and I hope Lilacsigil liked them and can't wait to do it all over again. ♥♥

I love the kitty bag, and how did you make the drawer pull?

I'd shop at your etsy, I think mine would have to called "Not According to Plan"

I would shop at your etsy shop too. My etsy shop would probably be called "Can't you stick to one thing, woman?"

The kitty bag is a free pattern from Below the Kowhai. I had just seen it the day before TJ told me about her cat bag idea.

I still have a box a friend made for me with wrapping paper of books (easier than a drawer I expect!). It's held up pretty well for many years so I am sure it will be enjoyed for a long time :)
